MICHAEL OYCO: The Successful Blogger Behind Michael’s Hut

If you are not inclined to the nature of blogging, you may only definitely see it as something people do out of mere passion. You may only see it as a hobby, but bloggers like me see it as a venue for self-expression, experiences, and even a work career. To tell you more about how blogging works and how it helps us, bloggers, I got the chance to interview one of the well-known personal and lifestyle bloggers in the Philippines—Michael Oyco.

You may visit his blog site here before reading this article.

I treat every single article as a memory to look back to in the future. It is interesting to find a phase of myself or others at that specific time and compare it to the present.

Let us now know more about the famous blogger, Michael Oyco of Michael Hut, and how blogging changed his life. Read the interview below and be inspired!

How long has it been since you started writing blogs?

My first blog entry was recorded last 2013. Most of them were articles about the products and businesses of friends and family! LOL! So interesting to look back at them from time to time especially the ones that are still present and ongoing. It seems my entrepreneur diploma was right on track.

What do you feel when you write blogs?

I feel satisfied and productive. I treat every single article as a memory to look back to in the future. It is interesting to find a phase of myself or others at that specific time and compare it to the present.

How can blogs help you?

Other than earning from the ads personally if we are talking about my own, I depend on other blog entries of bloggers when it comes to travel and reviews. One specific example is when I create an out-of-the-country family outing, most references will be coming from informative and helpful blog articles.

Compared to your writing style before, what improvements and learnings have you developed over the years?

Well, it is mostly about grammar. Speaking and writing English are two totally different things where there are different factors to consider. I personally just write like when I am speaking so grammar was one of the least things for me then. Now, thanks to Grammarly (lol), plays a big help not only to correct but improve a lot of things especially about writing generally.

Just make sure to be committed. Consistency is key. Passion alone can’t do it, and working hard alone can’t either.

What advice can you give to people, especially aspiring bloggers, who want to pursue blogging as a career?

Just make sure to be committed. Consistency is key. Passion alone can’t do it, and working hard alone can’t either. Both must be present, and continuous learning and development must happen. There will be phases and cycles because we deal with things differently (moods too) but never give up. Rest and Pause, but do not stop.

What can you say to people who see blogging and writing as an unworthy career?

I totally understand them just as I don’t understand other industries as well. It actually depends on how deep you know about the industry. If they say it’s unworthy, that is maybe because they only reached or knew a certain level – a surface level of things about the industry.

How does blogging change your life?

I want it to become my lifestyle. I want to keep and record things so when the time comes in the future, looking back at them is just an experience to treasure. And now that we can monetize it, it is an opportunity to take where I can do what I want and make a career out of it at the same time.

In addition, Michael Oyco shared a little bit of a story about his career background. He had been in the business development industry from three (3) different companies already. One of the companies occasionally sends him abroad for various reasons because they are a diverse entity. The other one got him to manage some of their business units in the travel and tours industry, while the last one was a ministry and a job in the food market. As a blogger, he has written at least one article about them all on his blog.  You can check it out here.

If you also want to be a blogger, start with passion and then learn to armor yourself with hard work and dedication.
